Resident Tips: Lowering Your Bed
In order to lower your bed, you may need to ask one of your floor mates to assist you. However, the task is a relatively simple one and does not require any special tools. If you choose to lower your bed, you’ll first need to make some decisions about the other furniture in your room.
One option is to place your small bookcase on top of your dresser. This will save you a bit of floor space. Next, you’ll need to consider where to place the large bookcase. Some residents use this bookcase while others prefer to place it underneath the bed once it’s been lowered.
While each room comes set-up with our standard set of furniture, how you configure your room is up to you. Just remember that all of the furniture must stay in your room as there is no additional storage space for these items.
To lower your bed, first take off the mattress and move it into the hallway. Move the items under the bed out of the way leaving room to move around the bed. Then, take the bed and turn it upside down. After you have the bed upside down, go to each corner of the bed where the frame connects to the wooden end and press down hard on the connection (with your foot if necessary -- just be sure to wear shoes). When you do this, the frame will unlock at the corner. Do this to one end of the bed and then proceed to the other.
After the frame is unlocked, turn both the frame and the wooden end over and slip the connector back into the slots on the wooden end at the desired height. Start on one end and make sure both connectors of the frame are going into the wooden end at the same time. Trying to insert one corner of the frame at a time will bend the frame supports and make your job more difficult. After getting one end in, do the same with the other end of the frame.
After all of the frame ends are level and placed in the wooden ends, you’ll need to press down hard on each corner of the frame to lock it and the wooden ends in place. The best way to do this is to stomp down with your foot on the frame at each corner. You should feel it lock into place. Failure to do this will cause the bed to collapse. The final step is to put your mattress back in place. Your bed is now adjusted and ready to use!
