The ACSA Network

Lecture Series

April 15, 2016

Assembly Hall

Playing off of the title of the 2010 movie "The Social Network", this year's theme will explore the many ways the African/Caribbean Diaspora explore their connections to different places, people, and cultures through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and Vine. Social media has become a major part of how people communicate and learn about each other cultures. We want to welcome members of the UChicago community to engage and look through the window into the various elements of our culture. The ACSA network expands all across campus and the world through our diverse friend groups. We are a network, but we are also a family of people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and languages!

This year’s show will be hosted by AphricanApe, a phenomenal Nigerian comedian, who keep the show funny, relaxing, and enjoyable for everyone. Performances will be featuring Nola Ade, a renowned musical recording artist, Make a Joyful Noise, RaggaeOfficial, and an array of student performances. Along with the performance there will be a fashion show featuring the designs of Akese, a leading designer from Chicago’s African Fashion Week. As always, a wonderful and delicious African and Caribbean dinner will be served before the show.

Open to the public. Tickets: $10 with UCID, $15 general admission. Purchase tickets here.

Sponsored by the Global Voices Performing Arts Series and the African & Caribbean Students Association.
