Sawyer. Professor Mark Q. Sawyer's pioneering work in the comparative study of race in the Americas as well as his commitment to mentorship and institution-building have produced a generation of scholars, reshaped the study of race and ethnicity in political science, and created new fields of inquiry across a number of disciplines. A year after his tragic passing, we hope to gather in the city where Sawyer was born and raised, and at the university where he earned his doctorate, to highlight his many contributions. This conference will be an opportunity to reflect on the state of the comparative study of race and new directions that Sawyer inspired both directly and indirectly.

Confirmed speakers include: Danielle Clealand, Cathy Cohen, Michael Dawson, Megan Francis, Lorrie Frasure-Yokley, Adom Getachew, Juliet Hooker, Fred Lee, Tianna Paschel, Dianne Pinderhughes, Claudia Sandoval, Dan Slater, and Lester Spence.
