Join the International House community for a champagne brunch and capoeira performance by Gingarte Capoeira. Capoeira is an art form that originated in Brazil in the 16th century. This unique martial art combines elements of fight, dance, acrobatics, rhythm, music, and philosophy. Developed by African slaves, it served as a form of cultural expression and self defense in opposition to the institution of slavery. Guests will have an opportunity to mingle with the artists as well as current graduate students, including International House fellows and interns. Presented as part of the International House Global Voices Performing Arts Series.

This event is free and open to the public. Must be 21 or older to attend; government-issued ID required for entry.

Persons with disabilities who may need assistance should contact International House in advance of the program at (773) 753-2274 or email at i-house-programs@uchicago.edu.

Please use the door on Dorchester Avenue to enter the Assembly Hall.
