International House is excited to continue the International House Global Program Fellows internship program for the 2024-2025 academic year. This program selects outstanding graduate students to serve as Global Program Fellows interns. These interns are responsible for self-designed programs and assist with the ongoing activities through our Graduate Commons Program. Reflecting the diverse programming at International House, interns are sourced globally, representing all graduate divisions and professional schools at the University of Chicago. Interns will report to the Assistant Director, Programs & Communications and collaborate with student project assistants, Graduate Fellows, and undergraduate Metcalf Interns. They will also work in conjunction with UChicago and external partners. Interns work as a team to ensure the exceptional diversity of the graduate community connected to International House, actively reaching out to the broader University community. They manage and develop programs and events through the Graduate Commons Program, fostering relationships among graduate students and postdocs. Program areas include internationally-focused public programs through the Global Voices Performing Arts and Lecture Series, language and culture tables, professional development programs, health and wellness programs, and social activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Global Program Fellows interns will conceive and implement activities for graduate and professional school students that enhance the mission of International House and contribute to the students’ positive campus experience. Throughout the summer, interns will continue to implement social activities focused on various cultural themes or country celebrations; organize regular sports and recreational activities; organize round table discussion groups and language exchange programs; and plan and schedule trips in and around Chicago. They will also provide administrative support for ongoing programs and operations of International House.
COMPENSATION: $18.63 per hour
SCHEDULES: Regular office hours are mandatory, with some evening and weekend work required. Appointments are for the 2024-2025 academic year.
QUALIFICATIONS: Enrollment as a graduate or professional school student at the University of Chicago is required. Applicants should have an understanding of the demands of university life and be familiar with University and City of Chicago resources. Other necessary skills include the ability to work with a large, ethnically, and culturally diverse population, excellent interpersonal skills, experience in program ideation and planning, student leadership activities, and/or community services. Proficiency in Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator, and Voices is preferred. Experience living or working in an international setting and audio-visual skills are pluses.
