2023-2024 — Global Program Fellows Internship Program

— Applications now closed

International House announces the newly renamed International House Global Program Fellows internship program for 2023-2024. As a part of this program, outstanding graduate students will be selected to serve as Global Program Fellows interns for self-designed programs and to support ongoing activities through our Graduate Commons Program. In reflecting the diversity of the programming at International House, Global Program Fellows interns shall come from all around the world, representing all graduate divisions and professional schools at the University of Chicago. Interns will report to the Assistant Director, Programs & Communications and will collaborate together with other student project assistants, Graduate Fellows, and undergraduate Metcalf Interns. They will also work collaboratively with UChicagoGRAD, Graduate Council, the Office of International Affairs, and other campus partners. Graduate interns work as a team to ensure the exceptional diversity of the graduate community connected to International House, and will find creative ways to reach out on an ongoing basis to the broader University community. They arrange programs and events through the Graduate Commons Program that help build relationships among graduate students and postdocs. Programs fall in the following areas: internationally-focused public programs through the Global Voices Performing Arts and Lecture Series, language and culture tables, professional development programs, health and wellness programs, social activities, and the Global Mentorship Network, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Global Program Fellows interns will conceive and implement activities for graduate and professional school students that enhance the mission of International House and contribute to the students’ positive campus experience. Through self-designed internships, interns will find innovative ways to provide in person and some virtual programming for grad students and postdocs. Throughout the year, they will continue to implement social activities focusing on a particular cultural theme or country celebration; organize regular sports and recreational activities; organize round table discussion groups and language exchange programs; plan and schedule trips in and around Chicago; amongst others. Global Program Fellows interns will also provide administrative support to staff for ongoing programs and operations of International House, including orientation activities for graduate students, Sunday Supper, and alumni engagement activities. They will serve as ambassadors and articulate advocates for International House and its mission within the UChicago graduate student community and beyond.
