Through a combination of policy choices and party dynamics, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker may be the most surprisingly high-profile progressive governor in the nation. On his watch, Illinois has ended cash bail, legalized recreational cannabis, became a sanctuary state for women seeking abortions, banned assault weapons and expanded health care access to undocumented immigrants even as other states bus thousands of migrants here.
