MEChA de UChicago and International House invite you to their annual celebration of Día de los Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday honoring deceased loved ones through a celebration of life. The program will begin with a lecture by Ms. Paulina Lopez, the Arte Ambulante Coordinator for the National Museum of Mexican Art. She will present on the history of the holiday and discuss how contemporary issues such as commodification shape how the event is celebrated today. The presentation will be followed by a performance of traditional ballet folklórico dances by Ballet Folklórico Xochitl. After the lecture and the performance, guests will be invited to enjoy dinner, view altars created by various UChicago advocacy organizations, and visit face-painting and sugar skull booths.

3:45PM: Doors open
4:15PM: National Museum of Mexican Art presentation & Q&A 
5:00PM: Ballet Folklórico Performance 
5:20PM: RSOs present their altars
5:30PM: Guests invited to share dinner, visit altars, and engage with sugar skull and face painting booths
