International House welcomes Michael Vickers, former Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence within the United States Department of Defense, to speak about the challenges facing the modern Middle East, including global jihad, sectarian conflict, and state collapse.  While at the Department of Defense, Vickers was responsible for all special operations and intelligence and is well-positioned to comment on the rise of ISIS and other key security concerns.  As the CIA officer in charge of fighting the Soviet advancement in Afghanistan, he was also memorably portrayed in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War.  His lecture will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Professor Robert Pape, director of the Chicago Project on Security and Terrorism.

Free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Global Voices Lecture Series, The Chicago Project on Security and Terrorism, and the Maroon Project on Security and Terrorism.
