Join International House, the UChicago Department of Music, and UChicago Arts as we welcome Mir Naqibul Islam for this special lecture-demonstration. Mir Naqibul Islam will share the historical background of the tabla instrument, how it has evolved, the present status of tabla, and how it is used to create music across genres. He will also share highlights from the phases of life that a tabla player or South Asian classical musician generally experiences. A reception will follow.
