Vivekananda Lecture: Thinking Through Space: A Multilingual Approach to Literary History

Wednesday, May 15
5:00PM-6:30PM
Assembly Hall

Join International House and the Committee on Southern Asian Studies (COSAS) for the Vivekananda Lecture by Francesca Orsini, Professor Emerita SOAS & Vivekananda Visiting Professor, Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations, University of Chicago. Orsini will explore literary history from a multilingual perspective. Drawing on geographer Doreen Massey’s definition of space as “the multiplicity of stories and trajectories so far” and on her recent book East of Delhi: Multilingual Literary Culture and World Literature, this talk employs space heuristically and at different levels to rethink literary history from a multilingual perspective.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Persons with disabilities who may need assistance should contact International House in advance of the program at (773) 753-2274 or email at i-house-programs@uchicago.edu.
