Reimaginations Discussion Group

Reimaginations is a discussion group in which thinkers from different countries and disciplines come together in order to "reimagine" crucial concepts of the human experience. Reimaginations will continue biweekly in Winter Quarter 2020 in the Tiffin Boardroom. Please check the GRAD Events Calendar for future dates. Keep an eye out for topic announcements on our Facebook Group or let us know if you are interested in leading a discussion.


Beer & Books

Discuss a new book and drink beer with fellow graduate students! Books will be announced prior to the event, and copies will be provided. Beer & Books will continue biweekly in Winter Quarter 2020 in the International House Library. Please check the GRAD Events Calendar for future dates.


Open Mic Series

Join International House and fellow graduate students for our Winter Quarter Open Mic Night on January 31, 2020.  All 21+ grad students with UCID are invited to perform any kind of talent, or just come out and support creative minds! All talents (music, dance, comedy, poetry, live art, etc.) are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by January 30, 2020 , and if you are interested in performing, email GRAD Global Impact Intern Venezah St. Louis.


Show Me Chicago Trips

International House GRAD Global Impact Interns organize regular trips to must-see places around Hyde Park and the rest of the city of Chicago. Past trips have included Lincoln Park Zoo, White Sox baseball game, theatre trips, Robie House tours, Chicago Fire soccer game, as well as various Chicago neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Greektown, and Pilsen. These are a great way to explore the many exciting activities that this city has to offer in a group. 


Watch Parties

International House often hosts watch parties for various sporting and music events. Annual events include the Superbowl, Oscars, Eurovision Song Contest, and FIFA Champions League matches. Next summer, we look forward to screening some of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, including the opening ceremony. 

Coming Up: Super Bowl LIV Watch Party

Join the Graduate Commons Program for the 54th Super Bowl at International House! Come along to see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs for the title. The game itself will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Kick-off is at 5:30PM.


Grad Mixers & Cultural Celebrations

The Graduate Commons Program regularly hosts large student mixers, often connected to special cultural events. Recently, graduate students have come together to celebrate Diwali, Lunar New Year, and Mardi Gras.

Coming Up: Lunar New Year Celebration
Thursday, January 30, 5:30-7:30PM, Assembly Hall

Join us to celebrate the Year of the Mouse! The Lunar New Year will start on January 25, marking the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar. Also known as the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals in Asia. Traditions include family gatherings and dumpling making. You will also be able to enjoy dumplings at our celebration, as well as plenty more authentic food whilst socializing with fellow graduate students. 


All events are exclusively for graduate students at least 21 years of age.
