One of the largest community groups devoted to Japanese art and culture in Chicago, Tsukasa Taiko celebrates the upcoming Asian Pacific American Heritage Month of May 2017.

Gintenkai, the performance division of Tsukasa Taiko, and Grandmasters Fujima Shunojo and Fujima Yoshinojo from Shubukai will perform at the seasonal concert. Tsukasa Taiko is one of three traditional performing arts departments in Asian Improv aRts Midwest (AIRMW) whose mission is to pass on the traditional concepts of genuine Japanese art as a cultural legacy, to instill appreciation for artistic excellence, and to utilize these concepts in expanding and evolving the taiko (Japanese drum) art form. Shubukai (formerly Fujima Ryu of Chicago) is the Japanese classical dance department at AIRMW, and has been a primary cultural representative in the Japanese American community in Chicago for the past 40 years. Its mission is to uphold the Japanese aesthetic and incorporate artistic integrity through performance and perpetuation of identity and expression.

A short casual Artist Talk will be held at the conclusion of the performance.

Free and open to the public.
