Ram Itani, PhD’23, was a Ralph W. Nicholas Fellow and international student from Nepal studying Chemistry in the University of Chicago Physical Sciences Division. Sujan Shrestha, MBA’23, was also a Ralph W. Nicholas Fellow and is an international student from Nepal studying at the Booth School of Business. They used their grant for the project Community Center to Empower the Youth of Rural Nepal to restore peace in rural Nepal by tackling the growing trend of rural to urban migration among youth. Funds from this grant provided support to a youth community center empowering middle to high school students to find economic opportunities locally through educational and recreational programs.

Ana Vasquez, MPP’22, and Ruth Castillo, MPP’23, were both international students from Venezuela studying at the Harris School of Public Policy. They used their grant for the project Puntos Solidarios: On our Way to Sustainability to ensure children from low-income communities in Venezuela have access to quality education in a safe environment. In addition, funds from this grant helped address issues of childhood malnutrition and other root causes of violence.
These projects are among the twenty projects from members of the International Houses Worldwide community funded at $10,000 each for implementation during the summer of 2022.
