Join this International Houses Worldwide event as we present International House Japan for a tour of their garden. The I-House garden, designed by famed Kyoto landscape artist Ogawa Jihei, is an oasis in the middle of Tokyo. This is the third virtual tour guided by our supervising gardener Chisao Shigemori. He will give a talk about how trees and plants in the House garden are pruned and trimmed by the gardeners of Kyoto-based Doppo-en, a landscape architecture firm that designs and maintains Japanese-style gardens around the country, including Hoshun-in, a subtemple of Kyoto’s Daitoku-ji. We will also focus on the special features of the cherry and other trees planted in our garden, appreciating the highlights of the season. Please enjoy a breath of early spring and the garden that is maintained with such meticulous, loving care.

Chisao Shigemori is the supervising gardener at I-House who knows every nook and cranny of the beautiful grounds that he helps maintain in perfect condition. He has been engaged in designing Kyoto-style gardens throughout Japan and also in broadly communicating their aesthetic appeal. He is the grandson of famed gardener Mirei Shigemori.

This program is free. Registration is required.
