As the White House continues to invest significant political capital in trying to broker Israeli-Palestinian peace, author, speaker and activist Josh Ruebner will discuss his new book, Shattered Hopes: Obama’s Failure to Broker Israeli-Palestinian Peace, and shed light on why the United States has been unable to achieve success despite more than twenty years of effort.
Foreign Policy in Focus called the book “Accessible and engaging…It’s a biting critique. Here is a book that does not ignore the enormous power differential between Israel and the Occupied (Palestinian) territories-that tells it like it is with no apprehension or sugar coating. Having consulted both leaked classified sources and publicly available documents, Ruebner fills Shattered Hopes with an abundance of evidence culled from primary sources, allowing readers to see for themselves the seemingly endless mistakes that characterize the so-called “peace process.”
Josh Ruebner is the National Advocacy Director of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, a national coalition of more than 400 organizations working to change U.S. policy toward Israel and the Palestinians to support human rights, international law and equality. He is also a former analyst in Middle East Affairs at Congressional Research Service, and holds a graduate degree in International Affairs from John Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. Ruebner’s analysis and commentary on U.S. policy toward the Middle East appear frequently in media such as NBC, ABC Nightline, CSPAN, Al Jazeera, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, the Hill, Detroit Free Press, Huffington Post, Middle East Report, and more.
