This May 2nd, join Chicago Society as it presents Technology and Society. TechSoc is a daylong conference with over a dozen speakers, hailing from Merrill Lynch, Harvard, Civis, Imperial College London, and more, talking about a wide range of topics like artificial intelligence, big data, medical robots, and more. Food will be provided for lunch and breakfast. Make sure you preregister–a few lucky preregistered guests will get an opportunity to dine with the speakers after the conference at a special VIP dinner.
Technology and Society is about how we interact with technology. Too often, the conversation is dominated by the newest thing with no sense of perspective of why that thing matters. The next years, decades, and century will see enormous changes, and it is important to understand them. However, it is not meaningful to understand them in a vacuum, devoid of how they touch human beings. When one day our future becomes someone’s history, we will be remembered for how we as people reacted to and were changed by the world around us. That is the important conversation that Technology and Society aims to spark. The keynote speaker will be Robert Kowalski, Professor Emeritus and Distinguished Research Fellow in the Department of Computing, Imperial College London.
Free and open to the public, with registration here.
Sponsored by the International House Global Voices Lecture Series and the Chicago Society.
